In the biggest return to Cleveland for a former Cavalier that we can think of, the Cavs swung a deal Friday evening to bring back point guard Matthew Dellavedova.
Dellavedova signed with the Cavs as an undrafted free agent before the 2013-14 season and quickly stole the fans’ hearts with his trademark white-guy brand of hustle basketball in an otherwise lifeless season where Mike Brown was the coach. Seriously, look it up, he was the Cavs’ coach again after LeBron.
Delly continued to play a sizable role off the bench when the team got good, stealing the show in the 2015 NBA Finals with some stellar performances on both ends of the court in the first few games in the absence of Kyrie Irving. He won a ring with the Cavs the following season before taking his limited talents to Milwaukee on a four-year deal.
Now, after shipping off George Hill and Sam Dekker to the Bucks, the Cavs welcome back Dellavedova along with John Henson and two draft picks.
The Cleveland Mocks staff reacts to the grand return below:
Sam – “After getting torched by Steph Curry last game, picking up Delly will help for the Finals rematch.”
Ryan – “Not to get caught up in nostalgia, but if the Cavs are going to keep bringing back guys from 2016 they should explore a deal for LeBron James.”
Josh – “With Delly and Channing Frye back from the championship team, the Cavs might be ready to make another run at this thing.”
