Due to scheduling conflict, Billy Joel Progressive Field concert to be held in center field during game

CLEVELAND — Many people were looking forward to the Indians game Friday night as well as the Billy Joel concert at Progressive Field, but the field itself is also looking to house both events. Due to a scheduling mishap, both the concert and baseball game are to be played at the same time.

The Indians game was originally scheduled to be in Oakland but after sewage flooded the Oakland Coliseum over the All-Star break it had to be moved to Cleveland. Given the far vicinity of the two teams, there was no other time for the games in Oakland, so Progressive Field will be doing double duty.

“The Billy Joel concert is a special event to hit our stadium, but we must complete the baseball game as well,” said an Indians representative. He continued to say that, “Mr. Joel and his piano will be in center field during the game with a piano-sized batting helmet for protection.”

This is not the first incident of this kind, as in 2008 Metallica played in front of a bunch of rowdy Raiders fans mid-game in the end zone. Thankfully, the JaMarcus Russell-led Raiders did not reach the end zone the band was playing in that day, but the Indians are going to have to be careful with their fourth outfielder.
