CLEVELAND — The trade that altered the NBA landscape is in serious danger after Isaiah Thomas reportedly failed his physical examination in Cleveland on Friday.
The trade, which was supposed to send Kyrie Irving to Boston in exchange for Thomas, Jae Crowder, Ante Zizic and the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first-round pick, could be voided after the Cavs were not happy with the results they gathered.
According to The Vertical’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Thomas only checked in at 5-foot-9 when measured by doctors. That falls several inches below the average for point guards and caused the Cavs to have serious doubts about his ability to defend NBA players.
Celtics general manager Danny Ainge reportedly insisted that Thomas has been that height all along, but Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is convinced that Boston tried to deceive his front office.
The Brooklyn first-round pick could not be reached for comment about the possibility of returning to Boston.
