CLEVELAND — Andrew Miller has had a terrific season so far for the Indians, but the Tribe has their sights on bigger things in the fall. In order to save him for the playoffs, Miller will be throwing right-handed for the remainder of the regular season.
“Andrew was key to our postseason success last season and we want to keep him fresh for that to happen again,” said manager Terry Francona. “We are gearing him up to go two, maybe five innings a night come October.”
Francona added that he plans to prepare Bryan Shaw for the playoffs by pitching him every day for the rest of the season, noting that the righty seems to be at his most effective when his elbow is being held in place by duct tape.
