TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — After an offseason that featured more arrests for assault than rushing yards accumulated since 2014, former Browns, Colts and apparently Raiders and Ravens running back Trent Richardson announced he is self-imposing a suspension that will last “as long as it needs to take.”
“It’s time for me to take a step back and reevaluate my life and career,” Richardson said through a statement provided by his agent. “I assume teams will be calling my phone every day asking when I’m ready to come back, but the NFL will have to wait.”
Richardson said it’s almost guaranteed that this self-imposed exile will take him through the rest of what would be his playing career. However, he added that maybe if he gets back in shape and teams think he’s good enough to play again, he will end his suspension. But for now, he will continue to make the brave and personal decision to sit out week after week.
