Elfrid Payton, Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier decide to become a Big Three

ORLANDO, Fla. — Inspired by Gordon Hayward, Isaiah Thomas and Al Horford being classified as a Big Three by fans and media, the Orlando Magic’s trio of Elfrid Payton, Aaron Gordon and Evan Fournier have decided they are a Big Three as well.

A source has indicated that when the young Magic players realized tangible results such as playoff success, awards or marketability are not necessary to become a Big Three, they were immediately on board with the idea. The source added that the new Orlando Big Three was particularly inspired by Al Horford’s inclusion in the Boston Big Three moniker once reserved for all-time great trios like Larry Bird, Kevin McHale and Robert Parish or Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen.

ESPN.com’s Chris Haynes reported earlier in the day that the Miami Heat’s Dion Waiters, Goran Dragic and Hassan Whiteside have also expressed interest in deeming themselves a Big Three despite sharing a combined zero All-Star appearances.
