After firing head coach Tyronn Lue after and 0-6 start this season, the Cavs are once again looking for a new head coach for the sixth time in Gilbert’s tenure as owner. Larry Drew, the longtime assistant and former head coach for the Atlanta Hawks will serve as interim, he will not be the long-term answer.
Gilbert is already set to hire himself as the next head coach. A source has indicated the Gilbert believes the only one who can truly coach this team is Gilbert himself. Gilbert made it known the team will not be tanking and believes he has put together a roster worthy of the playoffs.
Highlighted by a Larry Nance Jr and Kevin Love (when healthy) Gilbert was reportedly adamant that this is a playoff-caliber team. While Lue may not have been able to take them there, Gilbert certainly believes he can, despite not having a wealth of coaching experience.
