BOSTON — On December 4, Celtics players visited Boston’s Children Hospital to spread some holiday cheer to some of the ill patients. Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving was amongst the players who went on the visit.
Irving was sure to let some of the sick children know just how desperate he was to leave Cleveland. Irving told one young fan he “just had to get out of there, you know. I’m just so grateful for Danny coming and trading for me,” referring to Celtics general manager Danny Ainge. “I just had to get out of Cleveland.”
Reportedly, some of the children were a little confused why Irving brought up the subject since he was responding to a question about his favorite Christmas gift.
Irving, of course, was traded from the Cavs to the Celtics after the 2017 NBA Finals. He has not been shy about his feelings for the Cavs organization, which drafted him and provided him with the platform to win a championship alongside LeBron James. Reports around the time of the trade came out saying all the recent winning had begun to take a toll on Irving and that he didn’t enjoy playing second fiddle to James.
